There are open and closed religious systems. Open religious systems emphasize the common spiritual experience and journey, with less focus on systematic definition and orthodox practice. Closed religious systems push faith and belief, requiring a common spiritual definition and strict adherence to their ideology. Traditional atheism in the West has been a closed religious system that has pushed orthodox anti-theism. Freud, Marx, and O'Hair ... all promoted a we-them dualism that set atheist against theist. |
